Newsletter Autumn 2020

Hello All,

Firstly, in these strange times, we hope you are keeping well and have, over the last few months, found time to play your instrument or, if you are a teacher, managed to conquer the technology and keep your students going. We have been using our lockdown to create new music books, which we hope you’ll find fun and interesting to play. We are very excited about these:

Rags to Riches:

Our most recent book, Rags to Riches for Solo Bassoon, is packed full of wonderful ragtime music arranged for Intermediate to Advanced bassoonists. – Grade 5 and up. We love our bassoons here! A piano accompaniment book, suitable for Intermediate to Advanced pianists, is available separately.. We will arrange the book for other instruments in the coming months. Watch out on Facebook and Twitter for news.

Teachers Tricks:

On our website, you’ll find a new section called ‘Teachers Tricks’ with lots of woodwind Scale Sheets for Grades 1-3 (ABRSM and Trinity) which are completely free to download. We hope you find them useful.

60 Easy Classics:

60 Easy Classics is a fun new series of solo books of familiar classical music arranged for players of around Grades 1-4 standard. It includes intriguing (we think) information about the pieces and free downloadable soundtracks, and we have arranged the books for each of the woodwind instruments (including descant and treble recorders), and also for brass.

50+ Greatest Intermediate Classics

50+ Greatest Intermediate Classics is a collection of classical themes arranged as solos for the Intermediate and Advanced player. With plenty of challenge, this book provides lots of fun for advancing players, also great for sight reading practice. We have arranged the pieces for all woodwind instruments, including descant and treble recorder, and also for trumpet.

Learn Recorder through Famous Classics:

This book was released just before lockdown and has proved incredibly popular. It comes in two versions, UK musical terms and US musical terms and is designed for adult beginners and refreshers.

Other News

We were very excited to be approached by ABRSM, requesting a huge range of our books for consideration for the new woodwind syllabus. This involved sending great parcels of books to the woodwind selectors who finally picked an extraordinary 29 of our books to go through to moderation. We are thrilled that they liked them. Let’s hope the moderators pick some.

More fantastic news, is that our books are now for sale in the brilliant June Emerson Wind Music shop. Massive thanks to Rachel Emerson - it must have been a mammoth task getting all our books online. We are very grateful.

Halloween

The season of spooks is fast approaching, so you might be interested in our Trick or Treat - a fun-packed Halloween Suite for young players. The books are arranged for all the woodwind, stringed and brass brass instruments, and also piano. They include original spooky duet and solos with special effects, actions and creepy lyrics and also some fearsome classical arrangements, some of which are slightly tricky. Great for music lessons and playing with friends. We are also working on a book of arrangements of gruesome classical duets for Intermediate and Advanced players. We are hoping to have the bassoon book ready very soon.

Christmas

A reminder that as well as solo carols, we have dozens of Christmas duet books from for our Very Easy Christmas Duets for beginners to play with their teacher, to Christmas Duets in a vast range of instrumental combinations, and Christmas Crackers for advancing players. We are planning to develop our range of Christmas trios, so if you have requests for  a specific instrumental combination, let us know. Also popular has been the Learn Recorder for Christmas. So, if you know anyone who wants to take up the challenge …

That’s all for now. We wish you happy music-making. Stay well and keep in touch!

All the best,

Amanda and Jemima
